The deserted cove of Vöðlavík sits just beyond the little fishing village of Eskifjörður. Inhabited until1968, many of the descendants of the families that lived in Vöðlavík still own their family estates there. Remote and secluded, in later years the cove has become a haven for those seeking tranquility and inspiration from nature.
A road was laid to the cove in 1940 and although not easy to travel, still serves its purpose as the main gateway to Vöðlavík. Coming down the hillside into Vöðlavík a pristine river runs alongside the road and forms many small waterfalls on its way down. You can leave the worries of the world behind as there is no cell phone reception in the cove. Down by the sea, you’ll find a black sand beach wedged between two mountains. Loved by the locals and seldom visited by guest from overseas, Vöðlavík is the perfect spot for those looking to get off the beaten path and experience something different.
Available
From June 20th until September 15th
