We walk at night and sleep during the day
Night 1 - Stórurð
The trip starts at Gistihúsið Lake Hotel in Egilsstaðir. You can check-in at the hotel after 16:00 get everything ready for the walk and even have dinner there before setting off. At 19:00 the group will be driven to the starting point of the hiking trail in Stórurður. Stórurður is one of the most magnificent natural creations in Iceland surrounded by Dyrfjöll mountains. The scree is very unique, flat meadows, rugged boulders, some tens meters high, beautiful ponds and special vegetation. Walking in Stórurður is a unique experience. On Saturday morning, at the end of the walk, the group is picked up and driven to an accommodation in Egilsstaðir. Overnight at Lake Hotel in rooms with private bathroom. Day 1 When people have slept through most of the travel fatigue, the day is free and ideal to visit the Spa Bath which is at the hotel and have a walk around the town. Lake hotel also has one of the best restaurants in East Iceland, so it is ideal to enjoy what it has to offer while staying there. Elevation: 450 m Number of km: 14 Trip difficulty level: 3/5 Night 2 – Blágil We drive from Egilsstaðir at 19:00 in Breiðdalur, where we are going to walk in Blágil, one of the hidden pearls of East Iceland in an ancient main volcano, Breiðdalur volcano. The volcano is truly majestic and beautiful. Day 2 We sleep at the Lake hotel and get to check out at 12:00. Then it is ideal to relax in Vök baths, before we head to the summit, Snæfell. Elevation: 400 m. Number of km: 9 Trip difficulty level: 2/5 Night 3 - Snæfell We depart from Egilsstaðir at 19:00 and we drive through Fljótsdalur via Fljótsdalsheiði past Snæfellsskáli at the beginning of the hiking trail to the king of Icelandic mountains, the highest mountain outside the glaciers in Iceland, 1,833m above sea level, Snæfell. The main hiking trail starts a short distance inside Snæfellsskáli and the trail is marked up under the glacier cap. The route is suitable for most hikers and alternates steep comfortable sections. The view from the peak of Snæfell is hard to top. Day 3 On the way back we go to Laugarfell, where we have breakfast and immerse ourselves in wonderful natural pools with a view of the mountain we just peaked.
