Our story began in 1970 when Sveinn Sigurbjarnason started operating a snowmobile and bus for transportation. In 1974 a snowmobile was bought (see picture above) which was used to transport people across the mountains between Eskifjörður and Norðfjörður. It also went on many expeditions with scientist into the glaciers of Iceland. The vehicle was given the name Tanni, and that is where the name of our company got its name from. As time went on our vehicles grew in number and so did the variety of the tours offered.
In 1984 we started offering trips from Iceland to Europe. Our first destination was the Faroe Islands, and since then we have broadened our horizon and taken groups to many other countries. In 2006 Sveinn Sigurbjarnarson was the second man to received the award Kletturinn. The award was given to individuals who with their hard work and determination laid the foundation of tourism in East Iceland.
Tanni is a family company owned by father and daughter Sveinn and Díana. Díana took over as managing director in November 2013, a position previously held by her father. Sveinn is now chairman as well as a driver for the company.
